10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t always fun for most of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring, something inside of us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve collected throughout the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The exterior of your home could use some tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Macon, and, even more important, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save you money in years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the optimal time of year to clean your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest during the spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they aren’t cleaned.

Plus, pests and critters are searching for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help to prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a nice appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Home window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows shouldn’t give you much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows are tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting chore, and will need a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can pressure clean your home, patio furniture, patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your home, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem counter-productive since you will still be driving on it, but, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washing company will do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really make it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your patio probably gets the most use during the summer months, so it can be easy to overlook it during the winter when you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio might be in pretty rough condition the first time you step onto it in the spring.

Detergent and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or algae, you need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are common roof problems in Macon. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it is an excellent time to pressure clean your roof as well, but you will need to use a different process than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.

If you see streaks on your roof, algae is probably the cause. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles cannot be scrubbed off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.

The ideal method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and let it sit. This will kill all organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Clean up the Front

The front of your home is going to be what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will immediately improve your day, and will even inspire you to spend more time outside.

You can clean your front porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and think about painting it for a really fresh look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You’ll probably be spending a lot more time outdoors, so spring is a great time to organize whatever you will need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools and pool care equipment need to all have an assigned place outside your home – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your home so much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a huge impact on the look of your home.

Remove weeds near your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you’ll be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family sick.

Wipe it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.

You can probably complete these jobs after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Macon Pressure Washing provides professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
